The Maharashtra Right to Public Service Act, 2015 has been enacted to ensure that notified services provided by the Government and all its subordinate public authorities are delivered to citizens in a transparent, efficient, and time-bound manner. The Act has been in force since 28.04.2015. Its objective is to provide citizens with easy and timely access to services.
To monitor whether these notified services are being delivered to citizens as prescribed, and to ensure coordination, supervision, and improvements in service delivery, the Maharashtra State Commission for Right to Public Service has been established under this Act. The Commission consists of one Chief Commissioner and six Commissioners. The headquarters of the Commission is located at the New Administrative Building, opposite Mantralaya, Mumbai, and offices are established at all six divisional headquarters.
If eligible citizens do not receive services within the stipulated time or if services are denied without valid reasons, they can file a first and second appeal with the higher authorities. If still not satisfied, a third appeal can be made to the Commission. The concerned officer may be penalized up to ₹5000 per case. A list of notified services provided by this department is attached herewith.
