Minor Irrigation

From 1989, two separate departments namely L.P. South and North were operational under this ZillaParishad. From 1999, L.P. (South) Department was operational as Rural Water Supply and L.P. (North) Department was operational as Minor Irrigation Department. According to Section 100 of Maharashtra ZillaParishad and Panchayat Samiti Act 1969, minor schemes up to 100 hectares of irrigation capacity are implemented through ZillaParishad.
Since minor irrigation works carried out through ZillaParishad are small in nature, they require comparatively less funds. And these works are completed quickly. The people start getting the benefit of irrigation immediately. In places where there are limitations to take up large projects, benefits are provided by implementing small schemes through ZillaParishad.
By blocking the water flowing on the surface, the groundwater and surface water storage can be increased. And this water storage indirectly and directly increases the irrigation area. Agricultural production increases and helps in national development. The Minor Irrigation Department of AhilyanagarZillaParishad mainly implements collective benefit schemes as well as individual benefit schemes like irrigation wells. Funds are provided for these schemes by the State Government and the Central Government.
