Social Welfare Department
According to Article 46 of the Constitution of India, the State shall take special care to promote the educational and economic interests of the weaker sections, especially the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, and shall protect them from social injustice and all forms of exploitation. Accordingly, the State of Maharashtra has launched various schemes for the welfare of the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Deprived Castes and Nomadic Tribes. These schemes are being implemented through the Social Welfare Department. Government of Maharashtra, Social Welfare, Cultural Affairs and Sports Department, Government Decision No. BGT-2000/P.Kr./155/Budget dated 4 November 2000, 6 schemes under Section 100 and 2 schemes under Section 123 of the Maharashtra Zilla Parishad Ahilyanagar and Panchayat Samiti Act, 1961, a total of 8 schemes of the Social Welfare Department have been transferred to the Zilla Parishad Ahilyanagar.
Various schemes are implemented through Social Welfare and other mechanisms to bring all the backward classes and weaker sections into the process of social transformation and bring about their educational, social and economic development.
